4BT cummins in a 08 ranger
4BT cummins in a 08 ranger
so has any one on here dun this and where can i get a adaptor to run my stock trans i know where i can get two or three of these great engines so i am thinking about doing a diesel swap and i love all the coal that these lil engines can put out ... so can anyone help me out
well if you knew what this truck a been through you would put a better engine in it. its only got 45K on it but it has no power.. what a pos ... so it will get a real engine with some ***** . i think i will put a manuel trans in it
get a NV4500, or ZF 5spd
you took the words out of my mouth. how bout instead of wasting money on swaping a motor you put that money down on an actual 1 ton?
I mean a diesel ranger would be cool but if you are looking for towing power you wont be able to tow much more since the truck is tiny. If you are looking to go fast then get a fast car.
what the hell have you done to ur 08 ranger to make it have no power?! my 04 runs great and has plenty of get up and go... for a V6 that is
you want a diesel in a small pick up. wait for the new mahindra pick up truck... its about the size of the south american ranger just with a 2.2L rated with 140 hp and 236 tq

LMAO at the thought of putting a TORQUE *** 4bt up against a Ranger tranny. IF you could get adapters and get it hooked up, I'm sure the Ranger transmission MIGHT make it to the road. But the second you give that 4bt some fuel, it'll be toasted.
I won't comment on putting a 4bt in an '08. Hey, if you've got the money, by all means, do it.
BUT, the 4bts are low end torque monsters. You're going to need to put a new DRIVETRAIN in it. And by drivetrain let me clarify: transmission, transfer case, rear diff, and front diff(if you plan on any 4wd launches or anything). I would not even trust a Ford 8.8 to handle the torque that a little inline 4 Cummins can produce.

I hate to ask the stupid question, but can I see some 4bt dyno sheets or something? From what I've gathered 4bts are 106hp/260ish ft/lbs. While for a ranger that's a bit of torque, its no more than a v8 swap...
I gotta be missing something...

you can bolt up a turbo from a 6BT and the injectors from a 6BT also fit.. you can get a bunch more power easier than you can on a V8 easier.
But if your seriously thinking about doing this (as your next mod and not a mod 5 years down the road), here's the options I see:
1) Don't ask us. Go into a Custom Fabrication Shop and see what they would charge you to do it. Be ready for a big number. It's not going to be cheap.
2) Keep asking us, but the Truck is the last of your concerns. You are going to need access to an assortment of tools. Welders, metal of all shapes and sizes, tube benders (might not be totally necessary for engine swap), cold saws, plasma cutters, etc. You need to have almost a full shop of metal working tools to really tackle this as well as someone with the full knowledge to use all of it.
Work on getting access to the tools.... then work on knowing how to use all the tools... then start debating about the best way to swap that engine in.
