Coolant temp too high

Hi guys, I just checked the coolant temp and it’s steady at 240 degrees, the needle it’s at half like the temp is fine. I’ve been loosing a little coolant every month but I did a pressure test and there were no leaks. Why could be the reason for such a high coolant temp? Isn’t it supposed to be 190?

let me know and thanks in advance.

2003 ranger single cab 2.3 by the way

If you are using an OBD 2 reader to see "coolant temp" then you are NOT seeing coolant temp

2001-2011 Rangers with the 2.3l Duratec engines use a CHT(cylinder head temp) sensor NOT an ECT(engine coolant temp) sensor, so that's what you see on the OBD reader
And 230 to 250degF is about right, that's NOT coolant temp, its head metal temp
So it looks correct

The dash gauge uses a 12volt temp SENDER, not a sensor, 1/2 way is about 205deg, just below 1/2 or 1/2 is normal on the 2.3l Duratec
It uses a 180degF thermostat but on the LOWER HOSE of radiator, so 20-25 deg cooler that operating temp at the TOP of the engine
2001-2003 also used a heated thermostat, pricey to replace
