Looking for a Tuner
There are some options. You can use Tweecer, SCT 4 bank chip, F3 Moates chip, Moates quarterhorse, and then there is the option of building your own computer from Megasquirt. I am gonna use a Megasquirt for my 92 which is the same as your 89. But I am going all out.

Why waste the money on a tuner for something that old. Just small block it.

hey don't diss the vintage rangers, i love my 89, it runs great no major issues, and only 122000 miles on it, the only bad thing is the sensors are getting old and going bad so i've beenreplacing sensors lately. , probly cost more to do small block it, and way more work than i can do in a weekend, especially since its my main mode of transoportaion
I'm still waiting for it to arrive, but everything I've read about the SCT tuner and Fred @ Rogue is very positive. I'll let you know once I get the tunes loaded and tested.
Yeah that would be sweet! What motor do you have?
Turbo charging your 89 4cly and using a chip to tune will give you just as much power as a V8 and you will still be able to keep your MPG. Unless your under boost. As far as the SCT goes, Check out all the happy people over at Turborangerforums, that use SCT to tune.
thanks, i really want to turbo my ranger but idk if i can super charge it with the engines compression ration, and witht he SCT when i look on their website it only has option for mustang and thunderbird with a 5.O
you'll want to swap in the turbocoupes/mustangs pistons and rods. They are forged and give you a lower compression ratio to handle the boost.
supercharge or turbo it doesn't matter. Turbo is by far easier as its all bolt on and pretty cheap....no one really made a supercharger for our engines so it'll be a little harder than a turbo to make some power...

It can be done though. Look into a SCT 4 bank chip if your looking for a 94 and earlier OBD I computer. It will work with a ranger computer. Another good one would be Tweecer, or Tweecer RT. Also works great with the ranger computer. Now as far as supercharging, you can do it and have good luck. I would personally look for an used Procharger, Paxton, Vortech, thats serpentine belt driven. You will need to make your own brackets to mount it, and you will need to take a measurement to get a belt, but there are a few that have supercharged a 2.3 with luck. I would show you a video, but the user removed it. I will try to find something of it somewhere. Guy used a paxton supercharger from a V8 that was a 7 or 8 psi supercharger and it made like 15 on the 2.3.
huh alright, well when i have the money i am def going with a turbo, but to save some time and effort i think i'm just going to swap the engine from a mustang or t-bird, assuming that what i was sold is true and that the engine mounts should line up and wire harnesses should plug right in, and my trans. will bolt right up, and yeah cheeper than a supercharger,
