04 4.0l auto to manual swap question

I have a 04 4.0 4x4 automatic transmission truck I want to swap to a manual trans. I just bought a 03 4.0 4x4 manual trans truck as a donor. My question is can I take everything from the donor truck like the PATS, ignition/key, computer, wiring and make it work without having to cut and hack wires, have the computer reprogrammed

from everything I’ve researched it’s a straight swap
Right?

No, 1983 to 2003 Rangers used analog instrument clusters
2004 to 2011 used Digital clusters, and different body computers, these would be an issue

So the 2003 computer can't "talk" to the 2004 HEC cluster, 2004 computer has different software inside needed to "talk" with the HEC cluster
You could see if you can find a "tuner" who can remove the automatic transmission software from the 2004 computer, set it up for manual trans

2003 uses GEM module as body computer, runs wipers, widows, door locks and interior lights
2004 uses SJB(smart junction box) as the body computer, totally different wiring
So you are looking at full wiring and dash swap, also fuse boxes and engine wiring swap

Engine and trans have no real connection to PATS, there is just Neutral switch for starter motor activation, and "in gear" status to remove REV Limiter

So you can do the trans, pedal; and steering column swap and truck can be driven
You will need to plug in the new 2003 columns transceiver 4 wire connector to 2004 harness, should match up but not sure, but you can pull the 2004 transceiver and use it on the 2003 column
The transceiver is just an antenna for PATS its not a "matched" part

You will need to jumper the Neutral switch, on the DTR sensor for now, and figure a way to add the clutch switch, to avoid 3,000rpm limiter when in Neutral

But in any case to do this swap you need to stay with the 2004 engine computer and SJB and just swap the trans
You picked a tough one, pre-2004 and post-2004

Well you can use your 2004 computer(re-programmed) or find a 2004 4.0l manual trans computer to use in its place, it would need to be "matched" to the HEC/PATS system, but I think you can do that with Forscan software and interface cable, or so I have read, not expensive and it is useful software to have for Fords

And you can use the 2003 4x4 transmission, pedals and steering column for the swap

The 2 stumbling blocks are the 2003 computer and body computer, which you can't use easily in a 2004 Ranger

You will need to do some wiring, i.e. Reverse lights, and clutch switch
Reverse lights are easy, the 2 wires are there at the DTR sensor on the automatic, they just splice to the 2 wires on the reverse light switch on the manual trans, there is no polarity, its just 12v IN and 12v OUT when trans is in reverse

Clutch pedal switch is a bit more complicated but you will have the switch and its connector on the 2003 to go on, and the automatics DTR sensor wiring
If you decide to do it I can probably dig up some wiring diagrams for that
