05 4.0 4WD 5R55E Issues

I have a 5R55E that is having issues.

Last week the truck flashed the OD light coming home. Got the truck home, went to leave and the truck shifted into reverse, but refused to move. The truck was shifted into drive and also refused to move.

The transmission "hesitates" to move in reverse, and doesn't move in drive. I replaced the transmission range sensor and the speed sensor hoping that it was just an electrical issue.

Upon installing the sensors, the truck moves backwards, but has to be revved up to get it to move, and it will move on it's own. The truck will also move if you put the lever in 2, but it will not move in 1 or Drive. The OD light flashes, and to my understanding that means the transmission is having an issue, like a check engine light, correct me if I'm wrong. I have tried to put the truck into test mode with no avail and I have no access or funds to get a code reader.

I really have no clue what I'm doing when it comes to transmissions. I know that A/Ts work due to pressure, but that's about the extent of what I know. I'm really hoping this isn't in need of a rebuild or anything related to being pulled out of the truck to be fixed.

About the only thing that can be done at this point is to change the fluid and filter and see if that helps any. Cut the filter open and see if there's any metal shavings or sludge built up inside. Also check the fluid for shavings. If you see any of the above, it's time for a rebuild. Otherwise, you'll have to take it to the transmission shop for them to diagnose it.

Also, the only scanners that can scan the codes for the transmission in these trucks are the high dollar ones used by shops. The scanners at the parts stores won't be able to scan them. You are correct though, the O/D light flashing is like a check engine light, and there is a code stored in the computer for whatever may be going on with the transmission.
