2001 XLT 3.0 V6 automatic 4x2 hard shift between 1st and 2nd please help!

Ok guys here's the deal I've got a 2001 XLT 2x4 auto 3.0 V6 with 172k on it

the tranny was fully rebuilt in April 2012 (at that time had a late/high rpm shifting issue between 1 and 2 where the OD light would come on with it) has less than 22K on the rebuilt tranny

Recently I've been noticing that the shift between 1st and 2nd have been a little harder than usual (not bone jarring but noticeable (wouldn't be enough to make you spill a drink)) and the shift point will be anywhere between 2700 and 3200 rpm on a normal takeoff

That being said it does not always do this, there are times when it shifts just as smoothly as it would between any other gears

I have checked the tranny fluid and it is full and clean. Has a slight odor if you sniff up close but I wouldn't call it "burnt"

Any help y'all can give me would be greatly appreciated, I'm terrified of having to drop another couple grand on this transmission after such a recent rebuild.

Thank y'all, cowboy713

With 22000 since rebuild i doubt it would hurt to do fluid and filter change which would allow you to drop the pan and make sure no big chunks of anything floating around. I had a stutter coming out of overdrive when mine was an auto new filter and fluid fixed it right up. Could be a similar issue for you.
