2007 ford ranger 4x4 front axle diff issues

HI all newbie here, new to ranger forum not new to mechanical issues, thanks in advance for any and all help. Problems with front axle/ and diff. Here is that story. It all started with the transfer case slipping in four high range, I tracked this down to the servo in the transfer case, I changed that for 100 bucks and that issue was solved, this was followed or at the same time with an abs code showing up in the front left wheel, I jacked it up to inspect and looked like front brakes were hanging up and the front left wheel bearing was wasted. Not to do thing half measure I jacked it up and replaced front brakes pads, front rotors and front wheel bearing/hubs along with abs sensors. It now runs much better and smoother in and out of 4 wheel drive. My question is while inspecting the front axles I had about 20 thou play in the cv joints as they came out of the front diff. I could with a bar move the joint up and down what I thought was a fair amount and with oil residue arount it, is this caused by the cv joint or is it deeper into the front diff as in carrier bearings, anyone this deep into this please let me know your thoughts, thanks again
