2008 4.0 5 speed won’t go into 4x4

My ranger got stuck the other day on the crossmember. While trying to get it unstuck I lost 4x4. I have inspected the wires and everything seems to be fine. As I turn my 4x4 **** my lights come on and I can hear my actuator engaging but still no 4x4. Any help?

Take the shift motor off the transfer case and have a look at the shift rod and try to manually turn it with pliers(see link below)
While the shift motor is off, and plugged back in, have someone change the dash selector to 4H and 4L and back to 2WD, while you watch the drive wheel turn

The "position" and lights are all run inside the shift motor, there are no sensors inside the transfer case, for 2WD, 4H or 4L
So shift motor may be turning but its no able to turn shift rod inside transfer case, or shift rod is broken inside transfer case

After you remove the shift motor you will see this: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...ft_motor-2.JPG

The shift rod is pointed at 2WD(2h) in this picture, you can rotate it with pliers to 4H pretty easily, but should feel if its loose inside, 4l should be doable as well but BE CAREFUL, have a wheel BLOCKED, as NEUTRAL for transfer case is between 4H and 4L, directly across from 2H, so truck WILL ROLL AWAY if tire is not blocked
Shift rod only rotates counter-clockwise from 2H to 4 H and 4L, then clockwise back to 2H
