2wd to 4wd
2wd to 4wd
So a while back I swapped in a new transmission because of issues I was having and the cheapest one I found was a super low miles 4wd one with a nice transfer case, so I got that in and a custom driveshaft. Now since I already have that and I know it works good I want to swap to 4wd, I was thinking about the easiest way to do it and figured it would probably be mounting leaf springs and swapping in a straight axle. Just wondering if anyone has any tips to get started and or if it's even worth it.

Its called an SAS, solid axle swap, reasonably popular with off-roaders, not great for commuter vehicles, lol, there is a reason for independent front wheels as far as driveability
Article here on a few Ranger SAS options: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...xle_swap.shtml
Rangers start off at the assembly plant as a 2WD or a 4x4, the front part of the frame is different, 4x4 has a boxed frame
So 4WD is not just a bolt on option, each Ranger was built as a 2WD or a 4WD
Transmission/transfer case is actually the easy part of a 2WD to 4WD swap, getting the front wheels to track true down the road is the hard part, 4-wheel alignment
