it does matter for tire size though, cause 31 splines will hold up alot better the the 28er...you've got 28 splines, all(EDIT: STOCK) rangers do

noone even was asking about spline count....this thread is about gears....he asked if there were different gears for each spline count.....

BTW: NOT all Rangers have the 28 spline axle.........the FX4 Level II's have a 31 spline axle from the factory....

4.10's, 3.0 and 35's work for me, still have good power anywhere, was getting close to 18mpg on the hwy and about 12-13 in the city, once you first put them on you may notice it but after awhile you will be used to it, its a 3.0 so its not going to be winning any drag races any time soon(except for a few of you on here) i say go for it, its your truck do what you want.......

see i would think that if you are running 4.10's with 35's you would get better mpg since you are running at a much lower rpm in fact when i replaced my stock 28's with 31's my mpg improved and i now get consistent mileage in the low 20's

with the weight of the 35's, with lower gears, it takes more throttle to get them rolling......you do turn lower rpm's, but you also spend a lot more time out of overdrive....

for example, when i was stock, i had 31's and 3.73 gears.....i got around 17-18 mpg on the highway......when i lifted and put on the 33's with 3.73 gears, i got 14-15 mpg on the highway......when i lifted again and put on 35's with 3.73 gears, i got 11-12 mpg on the highway (not to mention that i was almost never in overdrive and creating excessive amounts of heat in the tranny; i remember my tranny temp being above 260* at 1 point)........when i regeared and had 35's and 4.56 gears, i now get 16-17 on the highway.......

my truck feels slow on 4.10's on 33s
ill probably go 4.56 on 35's but i would really like 4.88s or lower with a new tranny and 2 OD gears lol

unless you will use the truck for mainly offroading, 4.56's are more than enough for 35's......4.88's would be way too much gear for a 35" tire....
