4.0 4x4 auto. Intermittent shifting issues

I've been having some intermittent issues with the transmission missing a shift and coming out of gear when either slowing for a stop sign or missing the 2-3 shift and going into neutral. Usually happens when the engine is still cold and is more frequent in cold temperatures. Also sometimes when I start the cold engine and shift into drive I get no movement at all. I find if I shift back into park or neutral then back to drive it's fine. My Ranger is a 2008 4.0 auto 4x4 with 70k miles. From what I have read this sounds like a pressure/ solenoid issue. Wondering if a shift kit will solve the problem. Any ideas? Thanks.
