4.0 OHV on a 4.0 SOHC tranny?

I've got a quick question...

Will a 1997 4.0 OHV tranny bolt up to a '01 4.0 SOHC?

The guy I'll be buying it from is auto and so is mine. Will I need to get a new pcm or anything?

I would prefer to do that, but I can not find those parts anywhere around here.

If you have any info on where I could pick them up, PLEASE let me know. I'll give ya some extra moola for finding it for me!

if your doing what i hope your doing (finaly) just tear it down and simply replace the shaft and housing.
in '97 you could get either the 4R55E, 5R44E, or 5R55E.....the transmission he is talking about IS the 5R55E.....all extended cab 4wd Rangers in '97 had the 5R55E which is the same transmission as in the newer Ranger.....

replacing the bell housing isn't that big of deal, unbolt the bell housing off his tranny, and bolt it on the OHV tranny.....replacing the tailshaft for an inexperienced person could wind up being more than $150.....

Door code is a "D"

nothing is wrong with it......what i thought was wrong with it was in the X2 program......Bama didn't program it worth a crap.....i switched my program back to stock and it runs like a baby....shifts perfect.....

the reason i am continuing swapping to a manual is because i wanted a manual when i bought the truck, had to settle for an auto......

I hear ya my dad kept on telling me i would hate manual and I wouldnt like it since all my driving is in the city so I settled with auto in the 98..

I made damn sure on the 07 I got a manual and learned how to drive it.

My parents were leary of me driving the 07 to work the day I got it since I was rough with stick.. The salesman who sold the truck says if he wants to drive it bad enough (like I did) he will learn it.

are you kidding me, i got behind the wheel and had no problems, yet again i drove myself to drivers ed and finished a week before everyone else.

the first time this one chick got behind the wheel.. oh man..
my neck hurts thinking about it, needless to say she only drove for a few seconds.

Not always true, I know if a truck comes with a manual version I will buy it over an auto, its only when no manual version is offered that I would get an auto.

and its not harder to offroad with, just takes a better driver and lower gears always help too.
