4.0 OHV on a 4.0 SOHC tranny?

4.0 OHV on a 4.0 SOHC tranny?
I've got a quick question...
Will a 1997 4.0 OHV tranny bolt up to a '01 4.0 SOHC?
The guy I'll be buying it from is auto and so is mine. Will I need to get a new pcm or anything?

i could be wrong but i think the 97 trans is a 4 speed.
if your doing what i hope your doing (finaly) just tear it down and simply replace the shaft and housing.
edit
you need to get the transmission code off the door . it will either be "T" 4 speed, A4LD, 4R44E
or a "D" 5R55E
if it is a D then it will work but you will have to change the bellhousing/pump to the OHC unit

I would prefer to do that, but I can not find those parts anywhere around here.
If you have any info on where I could pick them up, PLEASE let me know. I'll give ya some extra moola for finding it for me!

replacing the bell housing isn't that big of deal, unbolt the bell housing off his tranny, and bolt it on the OHV tranny.....replacing the tailshaft for an inexperienced person could wind up being more than $150.....

there was only 3 autos offered in 97.
A4LD, 4R44E, and the 5R55E.
all depends on the trans code on the door sticker.
we know his is a 5R55E
i hate to do this but, your swaping to a manual for "some reason" whats really wrong with your transmission?

Door code is a "D"
nothing is wrong with it......what i thought was wrong with it was in the X2 program......Bama didn't program it worth a crap.....i switched my program back to stock and it runs like a baby....shifts perfect.....
the reason i am continuing swapping to a manual is because i wanted a manual when i bought the truck, had to settle for an auto......

I made damn sure on the 07 I got a manual and learned how to drive it.
My parents were leary of me driving the 07 to work the day I got it since I was rough with stick.. The salesman who sold the truck says if he wants to drive it bad enough (like I did) he will learn it.

the 5R44E was offered on 3.0 and 2.3 i think from 2002 and forward. its the same trans as the 5R55E just less input strength. it has a 3 pinion rear planet set, the 5R55E has a stronger 6 planet set. the 5R44e has one less forward and direct clutch then the 5R55E.
