so ive been searching around about the 4bt swap and i cant find a how to or walk through to look at. i have a 2002 fx4 with a 4 inch suspension lift right now and plan on getting a 3 inch body lift this winter. if anyone finds a walkthrough please send me the link. does anyone know what the supply list would be to do the swap? transmission, transfercase, ect. thanks!

there is no real how to because everyone on here that says they are gonna do it never does

i will not say i am going to do it, but if i ever put anything but a 3.0 in my ranger it will be a 4BT/ZF5/205 :) ill do the write up then

you may want to start with a solid axle swap

I've been looking into this too. Its not a real difficult swap in to any vehicle. The motor is essentially a 6bt (5.9) with 2 fewer cylinders. You can use just about every part manufactured for the 6 cylinder on the 4 cylinder. I believe The only custom work you would need to do it engine and transmission mounts, and maybe a driveshaft. Well, besides all of the obvious diesel conversion things (fuel system, gauges, etc) Otherwise, its a pretty straight forward swap. There aren't really any walkthroughs though because not too many have been swapped into rangers. You can get a ton of help on getting the thing running in your truck, but the actual mounting of the motor, trans, etc is going to be up to you.

Good luck.

Here are links to several builds:

Mooktank's 4BT Ford Ranger...
93 ranger 4bt build
93 ranger p-pump 4BT swap <= 93 Ranger p-pump 4BT swap

The third one is mine. :)

If you're seriously considering a 4bt for yur ranger, I would recommend a lot of your time looking on the 4btswaps site.

I would love to do one oneday when I get a better job to afford a swap without waiting for money to finish it all the time.

Hey Tractor_boy not trying to get all in your business but how much was the approx. total cost for your swap?

Mine was probably around 8K, most of these swaps are between 4K and 15K.
