4sd auto Ranger towing 17ft trailer

Ok I have a 96 Ranger 4.0 4wd EXcab 4x4 47000 miles 31-10.50.15 tires tow pkg and when I ran the door code it stated 4spd auto. I am wanting to buy 17 ft Casita fiberglass travel trailer and am wanting to drive to the Casita factory in Texas to pick it up. Total dry weight with all options of trailer will be about 2700lbs or so. Will the 4spd hold up with this trailer. I just had the trans flushed and filled with new fluid.

The Casita is also available in 13ft and 16ft but the 17ft is the only one with 6ft3in inside height and for the wife and I it best suits our needs.

I don't want to get rid of the Ranger because of the low miles and the condition
All I read about on alot of other newsgroups is what a dog the Ranger is but man I love this truck Thanks

yea it will be fine.......look in your owners manual and it will tell you the max towing weight that your truck can pull.......make sure you have a class III reciever hitch and are not pulling it with the bumper....if you had the 5 speed you would want to turn the overdrive off anyways to pull it............

btww........that is crazy that you have a '96 with 47,000 miles! i wanna see pics!

Thanks lifted97. Yeah I am the 2nd and 4th owner of my 96 Ranger. Its an awesome truck Oxford White. I do have a class 3 hitch. By the way I do have an overdrive in my Ranger. Is this common with the 4spd. If I knew how to post pictures I'd put a few up but I'm an old cranky guy and I just haven't figured it out yet.

that is awsome.....i bought my '97 when it had 40,000 miles from the orgional owner..........

if you have your owners manual, go through it.....it will tell you the max weight your can pull, and if you have to disengage the overdrive.....

Yes the Autos all have Overdrive. It is usally recomended to turn it off when towing a large load. To upload pics, you have to host them on a website such as www.photobuck.com or www.imageshack.us Sounds like you have an awsome truck!
