4wd disengaging under load

i notice my 4wd works when i engage it while driving straight, but as soon as i put a tough load on it, such as stuck in mud or thick dirt, the 4wd disengages. the half shafts turn, but the hubs disengage. i checked the vacuum hose and its good, so what else could it be?

You will need to replace the o-rings on the unit bearing when you install them. The kit supposedly includes them, but my set did not come with any.
