whats the best gears i could run in my truck for the best performance? best power, gas milage, etc..not to sure about the gearing with the rangers..if anyone could give me a run down on the plus and minus's of stock gears to re-gearing. thanks

 

4.88s should be about stock, 4.56s if you want taller or 5.13s if you're not driving on the highway much and mostly offroad, especially if you're doing any tough trails.

You can run 33s fine with 4.10s, and have a buddy who's running 265/75R16s with 3.73s and doesn't mind them but he doesn't 'wheel his truck much at all so he doesn't need the gears. I'm running 33x10.5s with 4.10s (~2000 rpm @ 60 mph) but wouldn't really mind 4.56s to be honest, but then again I only drive 55-60 mph max and I tow a lot. What gears do you have right now, and are you running an auto or standard? If you're already running 4.10s and you never tow or plan on 'wheeling hard, you might be OK to be honest, if you don't mind a bit of power lost due to the tire size.

In short, your fuel mileage is going to be rough regardless with 35s, but if you don't mind going through the hassle of regearing 4.88s would help a lot, especially with regaining power to the ground. If you're already running 4.10s and decide on 4.56s, IMO it would hardly be worth the money except for having your diffs rebuilt, because you won't notice much of a change. You're probably looking at at least $1000 if you get them done cheap, and it'd be a good time to install a locker or two as well. LR

 

i think i read somewhere 4.88's are the highest you can go with a 4x4 with the D35 because no one makes 5.13's for them kinda like my 7.5 they make 4.56's and 5.13's but no 4.88's
