Icon5 5 speed overdrive transmission Ranger XLT supercab 2.3 l

Good Day, New to The Forum: transmission makes noise when shifting clanking like the linkage you can hear shifting, any way to check the transmission level in a standard transmission 5 speed w/(5th is overdrive) Overdrive, 97 Ford Ranger XLT supercab 2.3 l, thanks

Remove the top fill plug, the fluid level should run out slightly indicating that the level is correct.
Rule of thumb is when adding trans oil, it is correct when it over flows out the fill plug.
I remove the stick from the inside and fill from inside the cab.
Make sure it's in neutral when you remove the stick.
Note that it uses ATF.

As for the clanking noise, that could be a clutch problem _ clutch release bearing perhaps.

Thank thank you that's what I was hoping not for:-):-) it's also a hydraulic clutch levels are topped off.
