86 Ranger V6 transmission swap options?
86 Ranger V6 transmission swap options?
Hello!
New to the Ranger world. I have an 86 Ranger LWB W/ V6 and Automatic transmission. This truck was acquired in a trade off for some labor. The body is rough but the engine purrs like a kitten! The transmission is dead and I don’t want to key the truck just rot away. Which Ford transmissions are a direct replacement for this truck? The truck wiring is bone-stock.
thanks for looking!

Welcome to the forum
You should have a fuel injected 2.9l V6, I think the 2.8l carburetor V6 engine was last used in 1985, it matters
There is a small window of years that will work with the 1986 2.9l, 1985-1987
You have an A4LD automatic
Look on the drivers side of transmission just in front of the shift linkage, you will see a connector, is it 2 wire or 3 wire?
Should be 2 wire, and thats the part that matters, your computer can only control 1 transmission solenoid
Picture in lower right of the 2 different connectors seen here: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums...sgo.39537/full
You are better off rebuilding the one you have, any used 1985-1987 A4LD will most likely need to be rebuilt as well
