first time post (begining of many im sure) I have a 94 xplorer sport 4x4 automatic and the good ol cologne 4.0 has a nasty tick. i want to put in a 302 carb w appropriate transmission (the ol stock 160hp 200+ftlbs not quite enough). my question... Is there a way to use the current transfer case??

Yes, but it won't last very long behind a V8

If you are going with a V8 then you need a 4WD transmission for it and usually there would be a transfer case attached which won't add much to the price
2WD and 4WD transmissions are different lengths so NOT interchangeable and can't be converted

First decide on a Transmission for the Carb'ed V8, manual or auto, auto needs to be an AOD as that was the last non-computer controlled automatic, 4wd version

Once you decide on the trans then look for adapters to mate it to your BW1354 transfer case, they are not made any more as far as I know, but can be found used

There is no upside to using your BW1354, you can sell it and then use that money for a BW1356 the bigger version of the 1354, lol
