98 Ranger 4X4 Bad Intermitten Vibration

I have been getting a bad vibration through the truck that will come on at any speed and won't go away unless I stop the truck or shift it into 4WD. If I shift into 4WD while moving and leave it in that position the vibration will re-occur until I select 2WD and then back to 4WD. It started all of a sudden this week. Also when I turn the **** to select 4WD I get the clicks but it does not seem to engage 4WD. I have manual locking hubs on the truck. I can put the truck into 4WD low and low range engages but it doesn't seem to be in 4WD. Any thoughts/ideas on what could be causing this is greatly appreciated.

Well I have a little more to the story now. This is my teenagers truck. That said he told me his left wheel locking hub came apart and he said he fixed it not long ago. I'm going to start there since it does feel the vibration as bad as it is seems to be coming from that area.
