99 Ranger: delayed/no transmission engagement
99 Ranger: delayed/no transmission engagement
Hello everyone, this is my first post, but I wish I wasn't writing it!!
I bought a 99 ranger (auto, 4.0, 4x4) that has transmission problems. When I first bought it had delayed enganement in D, however throw it in 1st or 2nd and would take right off and then I could move shifter up to Drive. To fix this I tried the transgo shift kit. The truck was shifting great afterwards, however it did not fix the engagement problem. So, last week I went to take of in 1st and nothing. Now I have no engagment in any forward gears, R does work. Yesterday I installed the updated valve body seporator plate and new EPC solenoid. Got in truck to take off and still no engagement. I can tell when its in gear as motor rpm go down a hair and truck has slight hesitation forward. Any suggestions what I should look at next? Thanks for the help.

I was going to suggest the epc.
I think you should check your line pressure. Theirs a pressure tap on driverside just above the linkage. You will need a gauge that reads up to about 400 psi.
PM me your email and I will get you some pdf troubleshooting info out of my ford manual.
