Transmission Clunk/engagement from take off.

What would cause my 4R44E trany to give a slight clunk when taking off from a complete stop? It does not do it when the vehicle is cold in the morning.

It does not seem to be slipping, just an annoying clunk as if something moves when accelerating or if something engages a bit to late. Checked u-joints, diff and anything that may move from acceleration. The fact that it does not do it cold, would make me believe that it is from having a thicker fluid viscosity at that time. If that is the case, would a different ATF help this?

Or could there be anything else that is temperature related that can cause this clunk?

Please give me your thoughts,

Bob

Try greasing your slip yoke. Those have a tendency to cause a clunk at take off and deceleration. Here's a how to https://www.ranger-forums.com/drivet...-sticky-73528/.

Thank you. It can't hurt to give that a try.

That fixed it !!! No more clunk at take off.

What I don't understand is why did I only hear the clunk a split second right after the truck actually moved? And why did it not clunk when the truck was stone cold? I need to research more so that I understand this....

Thanks again,
Bob
