Ok well today on my way to school, I noticed my truck was shaking a hair more then normal. i already had to replace the driveline bearing about a year ago and prayed that it was not that. I turned around and drove slowly home. Got home, crawled under it and sure enough, the bearing is gone. The rubber coating around it has melted off and the race is gone.

I have to have my truck back tomorrow for school, so Im kinda in a rush. I have a 97 2.3 5 speed with a 8.8 rear end swapped into it. What 1 piece driveshafts would work? I know from a 98+ but what about trans? Does it have to be a 5 speed or can I swap my flange onto the 1 piece? Thanks guys...sorry if this has been a choppy story but Im mad and in a hurry.

 

assuming its and ext cab? you need a shaft out of a 98+ 2wd manual ext cab

 

you need a shaft out of an ext cab 98+ AUTO or MANUAL. Also when you go to get one you will need to make sure that the flanges on either end are different sizes. Some (like the one I just happened to get) have the same size flange on both sides and this doesn't work.

 

I got a 1 piece alum. today for $40 out of a 99 4x2 ext cab and needless to say it was to freaking short. All the yard has are auto drive shafts. Will they be long enough with my manual slip yoke for the tranny put on it. The alum. one didnt work. It needed to be about 6 inchs longer.

 

Can someone find the measurements for the shaft I need? I know the alum. one is 61' from weld to weld, and with my manual yoke put on it and slid in the tranny its about 3 inches away from the rear axle. I know it has to be longer then that so it has room to slide in te tranny. I have already cut the member so I could fit it but its to short so I have to get another shaft tomorrow and I have to make sure this one will fit.

a 4x4 should be shorter then a 2wd, would it not, due to the transfer case length added to the trans length? I dont know, i been looking for a shop to extend the alum. one but thats hard to find around here.

Nope 2wd. Alum driveshaft is about 3inches to short. I found a shop that will make me a custom driveshaft and balance it for pretty cheap. Anyone that says the 1 piece swap is easy needs some help lol.

 

Thats for a 4x4 swap I believe, thats why it doesn't work for you. I did the swap. I'm 4x4 and it was plenty easy.

 

I got one out of a 2wd and it was short. So I found a shop close that will make me a custom shaft with heavy duty u-joints and new trans yoke and rear flange for $195.

 

Thats not bad, atleast you'll have a nice drive shaft.

 

i dont understand why a 98 plus 2wd ex cab drive shaft didnt work

 

I didnt understand it either, but I got it in today. Its 3/16 wall tubing with a 4in outside dia and heavy duty flanges and yoke. Its nice, came out to $208 with tax and took them 2 hours to make it and balance it. I can feel the difference.
