auto transmission shifter

is there any way to tighten the shifter in the column? i have a helluva lot of play in my shifter. sometimes it doesnt go all the way into park and i cant get it to go down into 1 anymore. is there any way to tighten it up or what? ive been looking on other sites and cant figure it out. torn my whole steering column/dash apart trying to figure out if something was broken but i cant figure it out. any help is greatly appreciated.
