I just installed 06 fender flares on my 04 Ranger. The truck looked good before but after installing the flares it looks like the rear tires stick in way to far compared to the front. So I measured the overall width of the front axle outside of the rim to outside of the rim and the overall width was 65" and the rear measured 64". Has anyone ever checked this? I do have the front Tbars cranked would that change it?

check in your manual, it will probably tell you that the front track width is 1.5" wider than the rear track width. most vehicles are built this way.

That's pretty typical of all IFS trucks...front track width is wider than the rear track width.


Cranked bars wouldn't change it much at all.

So i guess everyone just lives with this? I'm thinking about buying some 1/2" spacers to get this evened out. If I did I would buy some like these.

I'd spring for the hub/wheel centric spacers. That should make for a pretty solid setup. I don't do any real off roading.

The front is something like 1.2" wider than the rear.
An explorer axle is roughly 1.5" wider than the current rear also, for reference.
Cranking the torsion bars would make the front more narrow, but not enough to notice really.

Man reading that part about the explorer axle almost makes me want to do a swap but my luck I'd pick up a noisy or leaky rear axle.

dont feel bad, my F-350's front axle is a good 4" wider than the rear.

yep, it's not exclusive to IFS by any means. as far as i know, nearly all vehicles are built this way, they supposedly handle better.

i suspect it also allows complements turning radius.

Well I ordered some 1" bolt on spacers for just the rear of my truck. I'll try to post some pics when its done.
