The holes are already there. You may want to swap the computer for a manual one.

You may need some other odds and ends.

This is the parts list you will need:
- M50D-R1HD transmission (~$400) (You can also get a M50D-R1 out of any '91+ Ranger or Explorer)
- LUK clutch kit w/new slave cylinder ($199.99)
- New flywheel ($79.99)
- New slave cylinder ($47.99)
- New clutch pedal assembly ($45)
- New clutch master cylinder (64.99) (includes reservoir & hydraulic line)
- New transmission starter (109.99)
- manual transmission PCM off eBay ($35)

I recommend new flywheel, starter, clutch, and slave cylinder because those are parts that can cause you to have to remove the tranmission again to replace.

If you have all those parts, that is all you will need.

If you don't have a body lift, be prepared to cut the y-pipe. The best thing to do is to cut it off and clamp it back on as a temp to get you to an exhaust shop so they can reweld it on. If you don't cut it off or take it off, you will NEVER get the transmission back into the truck.

email Maurice (mjones) at lifted97ranger@insightbb.com. He has done 2 auto to manual swaps in the last 6 months. The above parts list is from his first manual swap.

I'd only agree with you because he lives in Alabama and doesn't know the joys of rush hour traffic in a big city.

slushboxes...i tell ya. jeeze. 5spd4lyfe haters.

lifted97Ranger aka Maurice did this. He's got a good thread on here doing his truck's Auto to Manual swap. including all the parts needed. Yes the trans wil bolt up...it's the same trans.

And if you wanted, you can run the 4.0L manual trans, it's a M5OD-R1HD. Whereas the 2.5 and 3.0's get the M5OD-R1...pretty sure its a direct swap?

you HAVE to use a 3.0 trans, the vulcan engine is a completely different animal and a cologne trans WILL NOT bolt up to the 3.0. also, the 2.5 m50dr1 will not bolt up to the 3.0 because the lima block and vulcan blocks are completely different animals same as the 4.0.
