automatic hubs

I have a 2002 FX4, with the 4.0 V6, and automatic 5 speed.
With the front of the truck lifted off the ground, I can spin the tire, and the whole driveline spins up to the transfer case.
Is my front end engaged all the time?
Are there no locking hubs? if so, can I install manual locking hubs?
I hate the thought of spinning my whole front wheel drive system when I don't need it...

there are no hubs so yes its locked in all the time...to swap to manual you need 98-00 half shafts and the hubs...
