I just cut my lines and plugged them with silicone.
Wish i still had my centers. Im not smart enough to think to cut them...

 

This sounds like a good thing to do...so what goes into installing AVMs??

you have to back you're truck up a hill. put a small infant in front of the tire for a wheel chock, take the 58" pry bar and pry the spindles off the truck breaking the ball joints, then from the inside out somehow hammer out the old hubs(pretty tricky for a n00b) then hammer the new ones on with a 30lb sledge.

now for the fun part, you have to duct tape the spindle to the ball joints in such a way so the ball joints will still function, and re assemble the CV shaft somehow. i would recommend gorilla glue.

you cant even do it on your truck unless you switch the whole front end (cv shafts, and hubs) over to the junk from a 99 - 00 ranger...

well if you can get broken ball joints stick with duct tape and gorilla glue.. i'm sure you can make some avms work on an 04

 

You could make them work it would just be expensive and a pain in the ***

 

I have thought about swapping to the older system to run manual hubs but I don't like the fact that a plastic ring holds the cv to the hub.

well my 4x4 works fine and it hasnt failed me yet so i'll stick with what works

 

yea, some 2000's and 01+ have live axles so you don't have the vacuum hubs crapping out on you.

 

So everyone capped their vac lines after install? I didnt do anything to mine. What's the difference??

 

Vacuum comes from the engine. So if you don't have your lines capped then you could suck in water and crap through those lines and it will get into your climate control system since it works off of the same vacuum ball. Also it could cause your engine to run lean since the MAF doesn't see the extra air going into the engine.

 

yea im getting them to fix my 4x4 and just to have a better 4x4 system, all i gotta say is they better be worth the money and if your vacuum lines work properly then theres no need to cap them, mine doesnt have a leak so im not capping them

 

OK just got the ball joints glued back in and on my 5th roll of duct tape. NOW i come back on here and NOW your saying the AVM's won't work on my 06......GREAT!!!! NOW i gotta undo all this crap....sheez, you guys have GREAT TIMING!!!!!

Yeah the end that doesn't plug into anything is the leak. It such an easy fix.

 

well just so you guys know i had to take a 5oz hammer to the ball joints to break the glue loose. Almost stripped my threads doin it. Cuttin through the duct tape was a pain and it freaking cold outside!!! I guess it coulda been worse!!

If you are getting AVMs you should cap off the lines. Once you install them and you don't cap them off, you run the risk of sucking in water and you MAF will not like it, like someone said. AVMs are manual not PVH so the lines do not connect back onto the hubs like stock PVHs.

.....just trying to clear that up i got a bit confused by what you said. Im not sure if you are getting the AVMs or just going back with stock, which is more expensive for one stock than for two AVMs.

 

I don't remember taking a line off my PVH when I installed the AVM's. When I "popped" the old ones out, did the line come off? Anyone got a pic of the vac lines so I can cap them??
