Axle question, please help!

I'm new to posting on here, hope i'm doing this right...

Anyway, I wa having trouble with slippange under acceleration. Not at initial take off, but if i gave it too much gas, (especially during the 1500-2500rpm range) My initial thought was clutch, but when I started pulling the tranny today, somthing made me question that... I was pulling the rear driveshaft, and aparently had the trans in gear (manual) while spinning the rear tires to get to the other bolts, i noticed that the tires were spinning independant of the rear driveshaft... put the trans in nuetral, and the driveshaft spun. Do i have axle issues? I have a 94 ranger with the open 8.8 and 3.27 ratio. any help is much appreciated!

You havve an open diff. That's the problem. You can swap in a limited slip to help with traction.

If you have an open, you can spin one side without the shaft spinning IF the other tire turns in the opposite direction(I'm assuming you mean when it's up on jackstands/in the air). You CANNOT turn both without the driveshaft turning.

I know i have an open diff, but that's not the problem. the problem is that it slips. I seem to remember that when i had the tranny down last december for a slave cylinder that the tires were locked when the trans was in gear... now when the trans is in gear, the tires spin, but not the driveshaft...

Yes, both were spinning, with no spin of the driveshaft

Was this while in the air? Were both spinning in the same direction?
When in gear, the other tire spins in the opposite direction per operation of the open diff b/c the trans offers resitance.

When in neutral, the trans does not offer the resitance to make the other wheel differentiate so the shaft (can) turns.

Sound normal UNLESS you have someone spinning both tires, same direction, while in gear, with no movement of the dshaft.

They were spinning opposite directions, and yes it was in the air, so everything in the rear axle was normal. Everythings put back together now, with a new clutch. The old one was so worn I'm suprised it moved at all.
