Need VIN for FX4 with twin sticks
Calling FX4s with manual trannys and t-cases.
The dealerships by me don't know how to look up non-common parts without VINs. I need the 4x4 extension housing with the t-case linkage bolt bosses and the limited edition chrome shifter handle assembly and ball.
I'd greatly appreciate anyone who could email me their VIN so I can have a truck as cool as yours!

I'm sure that forum members would be happy to help you out, but it's generally not a good idea just to pass out your vehicle VIN number - that's the first step towards identity theft for a vehicle.
Not meaning to rain on your parade, but that's the way it is.
Maybe if you were more specific about exactly the type/sort of parts that you need, I would not be surprised if some member could come up with the actual part # that you need.

i can tell you now that the tailshaft housing is OBSOLETE with or without the bolts. I have tried to buy it when i broke mine in half when i lost my driveshaft.
I had to get one from a trans shop that had a totaled R1 laying around, and it doesnt have the bolts holes in it. i think youll have to get it used unless you are lucky enough to find a dealership that has one

Yep those tailhousings are EXTREMELY hard to find. They were found ONLY in 02 fx4 and 03 fx4 lvl 2 manual tranny trucks. You only need this particular housing if you need the speed sensor in the extension housing. If your speed sensor is located in the rearend then you'll be able to use the much more common extension housing found in the older rangers. It will just have to come from a junkyard instead of ford.

Damnit! I didn't have my notifications on! Why isn't that a default?? I just happen to stumble upon this again during my searching.
This forum is a gold mine. None of this stuff comes up on google searches.
I got my VINs, thanks, but, unfortunately, there are still more road blocks.
All this info has been great. You're right I don't need the OSS ext housing and I am now the proud owner of a non-OSS ext housing with the bolt bosses. If you guys keep helping me out and I complete this project, my OSS ext housing (w/o bosses) will be for sale!
There's a guy on here flaunting his brand new OSS & Bosses ext housing. Part number is FMC-1L5Z-7A039-CA. So it's not totally obsolete. If you need this thing, I'd get that guy under some lights and interogate him.
Today, I also just happened to find the part numbers for the upper shifter (chrome) 1L5Z-7210-AD and ball 1L5Z-7213-AB. The similar part number fx4me posted, I believe those are the transmission shifter numbers.
Now here's the catch. Unlike the older Explorers & Rangers with the bland rubber covered black shifter, the FX4 chrome shift linkage is a 2-piece design; visible chrome lever and rusty shift linkage that bolts to the extension housing underneath (the ball being the 3rd piece). So my research project now is to figure out, if 7210-AD is the lever, what is the bottom piece?
I also learned something new on this site. It's not well-defined, but here's my take: The older 1-piece shift linkage must be shorter, creating a greater "offset" between the trans shifter and the t-case shifter inside the cab, whereas the FX4 chrome 2-piece linkage must be longer, so that the dual shifters are more parallel to each other. This would also change the inner rubber shift boot, which is something I need too.

Haha, yea it was you! I caught you, with your brand spanking new ext housing! Well, I don't need it for my 99 Explorer, but I would run from those with late models. I saw Lefty gather every single nut and bolt for this swap and then sell everything 4 months ago because he couldn't find that damn thing.
Like I said, I need the upper chrome shifter and ball, which I've retained the part numbers for, but they are a fortune brand new, so I wouldn't mind if someone has them for sale.
I also need the lower half, the shift linkage that bolts to the ext housing as well as the inner rubber shift boot (not the metal plate below it and not the leather visible shift boot).

I see you instead modified the older 1-piece linkage to work with the upper chrome handle. How did that work out? I have the 1-piecer too and contemplated that, but I'm trying to get this thing to work with my full length console, so if it's true that the "offsets" are different between the two different shift linkages, then I would like the longer more parallel one.

Ranger's Manual T-case Swap
His upper picture is the rare 2-piece chrome FX4 shift linkage, the lower pic is the older 1-piece shift linkage (the one you have in the pics that you would have to modify to work with the chrome handle). I think he is right about the offset thing. I'm guessing the way the two different linkages bolt to the ext housing are different. The FX4, since it is offset more forward, would need a longer arm to reach the shift arm on the t-case (which, btw, is different, i.e. thicker, for the rare FX4 cup-CV-joint BW1354m t-case).
Both linkages should bolt up with whatever setup you have, the difference is the way it sits on your floor. I have the Explorer full console, where my transmission shifter pokes out the hole where the flocked pockets used to be. I need the t-case shifter to be offset more forward so I don't have to cut away too much of my console.
