its not bad as long your not forcing the shifter into gear. with slight pressure, when the engine and transmission are spinning at the same speed it will just fall into gear...

It adds a lot of extra wear and tear to the parts. I wouldn't do it. I can do it too, but its not the best thing for it.

theres a third pedal there for a reason. use it. a clutch is cheaper than a transmission. Hell, a clutch kit is cheaper than a single GEAR inside of those trannys.

your essentially just floating the gears. just like in a semi, you don't use the clutch to shift unless your taking off but those tranny's are set up to take the abuse. use the third pedal...

so im guessing it is bad idk ive put almost 20k miles on the truck and still no problems with the tranny at all i even talked to my mechanic and he says there is a specific speed and RPM that allows you to do this and it wolnt harm the tranny if done correctly i.e. no grinding or jerking just a smooth shift that it wolnt hurt a thing his dad used to have a ranger with 250k miles on it only using the clutch for first and reverse. He once replaced the clutch and never had tranny problems so idk but if ya'll say its bad i think ill use the clutch rather be safe than sorry

btw 250k later and the truck still ran he got rid of it cuz his dad died :o(

Basically by shifting like that all you are doing is manually synchronizing the gears. All it is doin is speed matching each gear with the flywheel. Not bad for the tranny unless you start grinding gears. I personally would still use the clutch
