Brake drag on 1994 Ford Ranger XLT going up steep hill!

Hi All,

I have what to me is a strange problem. I live in Hawaii on the Big Island. Where I live I have to drive 50 miles in either direction on the highway before seeing a traffic sign or signal. This means I don't need to brake much.

When going to Costco in Kailua-Kona every 4 months, which is about 60 miles away, The return trip starts with a steep uphill climb. Sometimes I need to brake fairly suddenly and then I am getting brake drag with the truck pulling to the right. After about 10 miles of not using the brakes the problem goes away and doesn't come back until the next trip.

I have read many posts on the Internet about brake drag problems but haven't seen this one. Can anyone help me diagnose the problem and suggest a repair?

Thanks,
Ernie Young

sounds like the slider pins on the calipers need lubed up...they will cause a sticky caliper if theyre not lubed

Hi,

I lubed the caliper pins using Permatex ultra lube, and all is well! Thank you so much for the help.
