Catalytic Converter Gasket Question

Catalytic Converter Gasket Question
Have a 96 XLT 2.3L 2WD. Getting to ready to install a new direct fit catalytic converter (MagnaFlow didn't fit - the flange that swivels and connects to header manifold bolt spacing is 1/2" bigger than OEM!). Getting ready to install a Walker direct fit. My question: According to Ford Parts.com there's no gasket between the catalytic converter and the exhaust manifold. I'm seeing contradictory things on the Web. When I took the factory cat off, there's was no gasket in place (and did not leak); thus, I would tend to believe Ford Parts diagram AND the fact mine had no gasket. The only gasket is on the downstream side between the Cat and the exhaust pipe (spring bolt and "donut" gasket). Any help appreciated to confirm this...

Problem solved.....there's no gasket between exhaust manifold and catalytic converter. In addition, the only direct-fit converter that actually "fit" was the Walker. Magnaflow 23389 DOES NOT fit this vehicle. The swivel type flange; although the same size, has different hole spacing.....you'd have to modify it to make it fit.
