Noise from Transmission after Clutch Replacement
First off, I would like to say that I am happy to have found these forums. I am a member of similar forums for my motorcycle and they have been invaluable. Now on to my problem:
I have an '04 4.0 4X4 Ranger with a 5 speed. A week and a half ago a friend and I changed the clutch and slave cylinder and since then there has been noise coming from the transmission. My thought is that the throwout bearing on the new slave is bad, but before I spend another weekend ripping everything apart again, I wanted to get some other thoughts on it.
The noise sounds, well, like a bad bearing. I guess the best description I can give is like a tape in a car tape deck fast forwarding. It is present in neutral or any gear. The only time it goes away is when the clutch pedal is depressed and the truck isn't moving. I have also noticed that the truck shudders a bit here and there while driving at lower speeds (say 30 in 4th gear). I have put about 400 miles on it since the clutch change.
At the same time I changed the transmission fluid and one of the U joints.
Thanks in advance for any insight you guys can give me.
Mike
