Clutch kit cost?

Just bought a '99 Ford Ranger XLT with the 2.5L 5 speed tranny, and was wondering what a ballpark figure would be for a new clutch kit? The truck has 146,xxx miles on it. I was also wondering when you know you need to replace it? I've only had the truck about a week, and its fine right now, but i have noticed you just about have to let all the way out on the clutch before it catches. Any other manual trans i've drove will be about half way out when it catches. Is this a sign of wear, or is it normal for Rangers?

Mine has been at the very top of the pedal every since I it back in 2006. 200,000 miles later its still in the same spot.

Clutches will start slipping when they are going out. When you let off the clutch and give the vehicle gas it will rev like the clutch is pushed than it will start to pull. Hard to explain but you will know it when it happens.

Another point, slaves in rangers are said to the POS. I only had to bleed mine once and it has been fine every since. If the fluid in the res. starts disappering very fast than its probably time for a slave. Might as well change the whole clutch while the tranny is out.

are there any other signs a clutch is going out? like on mine, i've noticed i have to rev the engine fairly high to take off in it from a dead stop, then once i get past first gear everything is fine. i've killed it probably ten times this past week, and i can't figure out why, because i've drove a 5 speed for a long time but this little truck has me puzzled. There's also a slight "lug" in it while your traveling sometimes, but it supposely has new plugs and wires in it, so i was wondering about that too. I'm hoping its just me getting use to driving a 4 cylinder, because like a posted on another thread, i've always had V8 trucks, so this is a little different.

This is what is happening to mine. I'm in second and when I am letting off the clutch and push gas, truck feels as if it was in neutral and then it starts to go. I am actively looking for a new clutch kit, too... Plus, all the other gears are hard to get them in.. even 5th.

i'm starting to think the stalling issue i'm having now and then, and the sluggish i'm getting in first gear is from a worn timing belt. the more i read about it, the more i'm convinced thats a lot of my issues. i pulled the cover back just enough to get a look at it, and it does look somewhat wore.
