Clutch line issues

On a 1990 ranger 5 speed where the hydraulic line goes into the slave cylinder does the that retaining clip actually hold the line in or is it just a fail safe? Here is my issue. I replaced the slave last year abouts and kept the old hydraulic line and it went back in the slave and was good with no retaining clip and had no issues. I replaced the transmission kept the slave I bought along with a new hydraulic line that will not lock in the slave cylinder like the old line did? A buddy suggested a peice of the seal from the old line was stuck in the slave and causing me issues. My question about the retaining clip would answer my issues i think ..appreciate any feedback

There were TWO different "quick disconnects", that's what Ford called them

Google: How To Disconnect and Connect Hydraulic Clutch Line on a Ford Ranger, F150, F250, Mazda Trucks.

Watch the 4:36 video to see the two styles

I think around 1992 is when Ford changed over in Rangers and other truck models, from the clip style to the no clip style

The Quick disconnect has a Valve inside so when its removed from slave clutch fluid doesn't just run out of Master
When connected the valve is pushed open
If you can't push down on clutch pedal then valve is closed, so most likely the quick disconnect has.........disconnected, lol

Most new slaves will have the no clip style, so you can get a new Master at some point and next clutch it won't be an issue, or just the new hose from master to slave, but masters do wear out eventually

Thanks i changed the slave cylinder last year and my old line hooked up with no issues. I just did a transmission swap and bought a new line and it won't stay in. Also found out the difference in the slave cylinders a oem and a aftermarket and they not compatible. It's been a pain in the ***
