Clutch Peddle Down

My clutch peddle was going soft in the mornings when I would start my truck. Eventually, as I was driving, it would improve. My drive home had no problems. The other day, the peddle went to the floor, and I could not shift out of reverse without turning off the engine. I bled the cluch lines, but to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions? 94 Ranger Splash 4 cyl 5 speed manual.

like Downey said the slave cylinder is shot.

something that worked for me when driving is, when you want to say-upshift clutch it(in and out) like half a dozen times and it should go into gear, same with downshifting too.. its a real pain in the azz.

I had the same problem. In fact bought the truck dirt cheap for that reason.
I took out the cap or seal (whatever it is) out from inside the master cylinder
fluid container and chucked it in the garbage.Filled up the brake fluid to the
top.Have not had a problem since.

So, you're telling me that I need to pull the whole transmission and transfer case to get the air out of the slave cylinder? (I sure hope not)

No , just the master cylinder . It is mounted on the firewall in a way that traps air . You can remove it along with the reservoir , and the tube going to the slave on the side of the trans. The connection to the slave has a check valve in it so air won't enter the tube and fluid run out.

Oh good, that's a relief
I actually talked to a mechanic at a Ford dealship today and he said my slave cylinder was self-bleeding and he told me that I just needed to pump the clutch pedal real fast.
That sounds right, because when my hired help quit on me and the transmission wouldn't go in reverse, I just got really pissed and started pumping it real fast and then I got it to go in reverse ...lol

is this the vid?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgNTDGwcjZc

does anyone have a vid or DIY of how to remove the slave cylinder from the truck? the vid i posted doesn't show how to since he had the parts already free from the truck.

also, are the cylinders the same for all three engine/trans?

I actually had trouble removing the whole thing from the truck too, so I ended up knocking that little 1/16 roll pin out. I'm pretty sure there's another way to get it out though.
(There's probably another special tool you need to buy)
