Convert from 4x2 to 4x4
Convert from 4x2 to 4x4
Curious to know how expensive it would be to swap my 2003 3.0l ranger from 4x2 to 4x4 and how long I could expect this to take? What all would I need? Etc. coming up to winter… my state has quite a bit of snow. Would like the 4x4 to help. I know they had the 4x4 option but still not sure what all it would take… thanks in advance!
Welcome to the forum
4WD was never an "option" on any 4x4s made
Its a separate Model
A 4WD vehicle starts with a different frame, front has boxed frame rails to bolt front drive axle to
So on the assembly line they build 4WDs, then change and build 2WDs starting with different frame
Like a Regular Cab or Extended Cab was not an "option", they were different Models of Rangers, have different frames
AC, power windows, cruise, deluxe radio, these are options that can be added to most Models
But to do it you would need 3.0l 4WD transmission and transfer case, 2WD transmission can not be used or converted
Front axle/differential, welding, to box frame, and add mounting brackets
Drive shafts
Electronic 4x4CM with wiring
Or find a Rolled or otherwise body damaged 4x4 Ranger, with STRAIGHT FRAME, and swap your body over to it
You are better off to sell the 2WD and buy a factory 4WD, cheaper and better results
