ok im thinking about picken up my girlfriends dads ranger its a 1990 ranger 4x4 he wants 500 for it. its manual and he said that it will slip out of gear or somtimes not even go into gear and when he told me that i was more or less thinkin its the clutch so i happend to ask him when it was replaced and he said never and the truck has 120.000 on the tranny but only 65000 on the motor but he said it was the hole tranny. now i actually drove it the other day he said only when its cold it will shift perfectly fine then i started to think it really was the hole tranny what do you think?

Wow, you've really been waiting for a reply!
It sounds like a worn tranny to me. I don't think a replacement would be a whole lot of money though, if you find a good junk one.
Slipping under load can be the clutch, but slipping out of gear and engagement problems can be in the tranny. The clutch being excessively worn will make engagement difficult, but once engaged, a clutch shouldn't make it "jump out of gear".
A common problem is the 3rd gear synchro which wears and cause a bit of "crash" when engaging 3rd. But that can affect any gear.
