Dana35 Spool?

Do they make them, I havn't been able to find one. At first I was just going to say I'll weld it all up to tell you the truth if I have to take my diff out one more time I'd kill myself. Its such a pain to do so I wanted to get a spool. If your going to tell me not to get one please don't comment, I understand what I'm doing and I'll be careful. During the snow I'll just no lock one hub and I'll have an open diff. So please can anyone who knows this help me out.

come on people. I understand, i've read everything. Just let me do my thing, I'm asking if you know of any. I was going to get a locker but money isn't work fo rme and I have to get my front diff back in before snow fall or it getting any colder so I'm looking for something cheaper.

I'm not aware of any spool being made for the d35 TTB. Why a spool though? Why not an automatic locker? They are almost the same price and will act almost like a spool, except they won't require you to reset the backlash when you install it.

BTW though, having a spool and only locking one hub will NOT be like having an open diff and it would be much harder on the frontend then locking both hubs. You would be applying the full amount of torque to one axle 100% of the time. Thats a recipe for disaster.

id go with a lock-rite, it should do pretty good and wont give you binding problems that a spooled/welded setup would allow.

I don't get what you mean that it would be harder on the axle with only one locked. It would just like an open because the power would be split even 50/50 and only one wheel would get the power. Its just like a locker but its cheaper, only con (or pro, depending how you look at it) is that it doesn't unlock at any time.

The torque would not be split 50/50 if you only lock in one of the hubs. The hub that is locked in would be the drive wheel, sure both axles would spin because they are spooled. However the power will stop at the unlocked hub and the axle will have no load placed on that side, it'll be free spinning in the hub. Therefore you are placing 100% of the drive power on one axle shaft 100% of the time (the side that is locked in) and since its spooled it will not differentiate as an open diff would. It will definitely be more tame then having both hubs locked in, but it won't be the same as an open diff. Also, in the right situation you could inadvertently put too much stress on you're axle and since it won't have the ability to differentiate, then you'll be in trouble.

I don't think there is a spool out there for the TTB anyways though so unless you run across one I'd have to say a lunchbox locker would be the best choice.

How much do you have to spend then? Spools aren't much cheaper than auto lockers anyways.

You can pick up an aussie locker for your TTB for $230.

my aussie is pretty much a spool right now, and i have yet to break a cv shaft *OFFROAD*... minus the over extending

and your going to want to lock em both in bc if you only lock one hub in and give it gas then it pulls pretty hard to the opposite side... and in the snow all i experinced so far was it pulling a little bit when the traction changed but it was nothing i couldnt keep under control, it does like to plow a little bit in slow turns but they're also 35x1250 MTs, not exactly the best for snow

but what do i know? i have nothing to compare against since i have never driven in the snow before

he doesn't have CV's....he's got a TTB front end not the SLA....

if you can't afford a locker, then wait till you can......even a locker unlockes when turning, and even off road, your turning ability will be reduced from what it is now because the inside wheel can't turn slower than the outside wheel.....

you really only want a spool for going in a straight line.....like in drag cars...

just do it, you'll get used to the lack of ability to turn with the hubs locked in

idk how you wheel tho, if your skinny pedal happy you may want to get ready to fix stuff though, but like i said i have yet to break anything offroad because of the locker
