hey guys i have a 1999 4x4 ranger and my buddy told me that u can fix the little shake when u first start moving by putting some grease on it. I was wondering if anyone has done this and if any grease will work

 

yes, remove the driveshaft, mark the two pieces to make sure you put the driveshaft back in the same spot after you pull the slip shaft apart or it will be off balance, pack it with grease and put it back together. you will need a 12pt 12mm socket, a zip tie and a pair of side cutters

 

okay what are the zip tie and side cutters for...to take off that rubber booty and then to put it back on?

 

yes, just cut one of the bands off of it then use a zip tie to put it back on

PUT A BLOCK ON YOUR WHEELS!!!


As soon as you start wrenching on teh driveshaft chances are you will need your body weight to remove the bolts - and as soon as you do that your truck will roll - scared the booty out of me when i went to remove my own shaft.. throw a block of wood on the front and back, as when you tighten it back on youll be pushing the other way (Hence.. rolling forward//back)

 

Ah so i take it it needs to be in neutral

 

Hah, wont matter.. as soon as you disconnect the driveshaft youll be rolling around :-D

 

I never removed my drive shaft to lube it up. I just cut the bands that hold the rubber boot on and packed some grease in there with my hand. It has been almost a year sense I did that and still no clunk.
