Drivetrain problem- Please Help!!

Hi guys - my rear end in my 2001 4X4, has been making a horrible knocking noise. I took it to a mechanic friend and he said I am going to need a Ring, Pinion, Bearing Kit, and the seals. I called a local truck parts store and they quoted me close to $550 for all of it. Is there somewhere I can buy aftermarket parts at online that might save me some money? What do you guys suggest? Thanks for all the help!!

A whole new axle would only run you $350.

car-part.com

You need this info:
7.5 or 8.8
Limited Slip or Open
Gear Ratio (3.55, 3.73, 4.10)

The axle tag on the rear differential cover should provide you with all that info.

ie)
88 4L10
means
Ford 8.8 with 4.10s and Limited Slip

Just get an axle exactly like the one you have with lowish miles.

I forgot to include that information - I have the 8.8 with the 4.10's. I really only need the 3rd member, would it still be smarter to just buy the whole axle setup?

Is car-part.com the site you would go through? Where would you get it?

In my area I have some yards that I would go to for an axle but obviously I have no idea where you would in Salina, Kansas. Just use car-part.com to narrow down your options and see what's available in your area.
