explorer axle

i wanna run one as does evry1 else...

i have an 8.8, 28 spline, open w/ 4.10s.. i am 2wd w/ 32" BFG MTs
i want to run explorer 8.8, 31 spline, open (or L/S) w/ 4.10s

i must have the 8.8 (which im pretty sure all explorers are)
i must have 31 spline (better strength compared to my 28)
do NOT care whether it is open or l/s
i must have 4.10 gears

with these requirements, i believe my options are D2 and 42
am i correct??

here is my source: http://www.explorerforum.com/ntrprize/Axle.htm

also i have researched and cannot seem to find the specific years and submodels that are setup for these axles.. what do you fellas know??

i know its hard to find an ex axle with 4.10s

3.55s and 3.73s were more common

You need any Explorer axle from 1995-2001.

why do you want to run an explorer axle, if its for the 31 spline dont do it, just add an L/S to yours. if its so you can run disc brakes, then definitly go for it

either way its an upgrade so do it no matter what..strength or braking power

if you do not care about brakes

1990-2001 will work.

I did not care about brakes at the time since I only paid 50 for my axle. Would be nice to have them but not that important.

Btw take the 4.10s out of your 28 spline put them in the 31 spline, that opens up more doors for more axles and maybe at better prices.

i am going to try and be nice here.........you have got to be kidding thinking that statement is true right

31 spline axles are a lot stronger than a 28 spline axle......

If you off road the 31 splines are a nice insurance. It takes more to break the 31 spline and that is something I like having in the axle.

As for the brakes. If you can find one without looking too hard GET THE DISC brakes. My truck stops better now than it did stock and I am talking about it stopping better with 33's than with my stock tires.
