explorer transfer case compatability

ok so my transfer case chain is slipping so bad i dont even want to put it in 4x4. so since i need a new t-case i was going to swap over to the early expo one that has the different output shaft on the front so i can run u-joints rather than that gay tulip style one. so my question is if it will work right with my truck. one of my buddies has one that i think i can get for free. but they have this weird wire coming out of the rear output shaft area. i think it might be the speed sensor for those trucks. what do i have to do about that wire? thanks

Yeah, that's a speed sensor. Pull it out, and replace it with a rubber soft plug, one you can get at most auto parts stores. Refer to my Level II Case swap thread. It has all the info about running an expo case on a ranger 98+ and what you need to do. I'm running a 94-95 Expo case right now, and after a year, no problems.
