Ok,

I have found what I think is a leak between where the cv joint actually goes into the front differential. I have already replaced the seal where the driveshaft goes in. Although the leak is along the whole bottom of the front diff, I think it is from where the cv joint goes in considering there is oil thrown all up around that area.

The boot for the cv joint itself is intact, and the only play in it is maybe a couple mm at most in/out, not up/down or side/side.

How hard is this to replace? I've never taken a cv joint off before.

Also, I notice that when I come to a stop or slowly take off, I can feel sort of a clicking noise. Not sure if this is from the same situation.

Yeah I can do that.

So I managed to tackle this today. I took my time and it ended up taking me a couple hours. Honestly the hardest part was to pull the old seal out. I greased the new seal and tapped it in place. The metal ring around the outside got slightly bent as I tapped it in, but it flattened back out nicely when it bottomed out against the diff. Will this cause problems, or is the main point of interest for this seal the inner stuff?

Second, I filled up the front diff until I could reach my finger in it and feel oil. What's everyone doing to ensure they're at the proper level?

Got a lot done today on this thing. Washed it, seafoamed it, new plugs, new filter, changed oil/filter, and replaced this seal/topped off front diff. Figured after I just put a rebuilt trans in it at 160k, I better freshen some stuff up since I plan on keeping it for a bit longer.
