4wd to 2wd?

So, I got my truck so I could build it into a mild prerunner...while still being able to use the bed to load up my quad.

Its 4wd and the long travel kits for 4wd are ridiculously expensive so I was wondering if its possible to change it to 2wd?

What all is necessary?

I'm already predicting the cost of doing the swap is more than the 4wd LT kit.
But maybe I'll be suprised. :P

Thanks guys and gals.

Funny, I've got an '03 Edge 2WD that I'm looking to go 4WD with. What's the mileage? Maybe we could swap parts if they're compatible?

You might get the short end of the stick though. If I were you, I'd get the 2WD spindles from a Trailhead or Edge, and a used 2WD ABS pump. Then I'd install those and remove the front drivetrain from the front driveshaft up, leaving the transfer case intact. Parts should run $200-300. Check out Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market.

Find a junk yard. Take everything from the knuckle out off of an Edge or 2wd Explorer. Remove everything else. Bam, you're 2wd.

Or shoot, if you are going to buy a LT kit then it will come with new arms and knuckles. All Edge LT kits will work on 4wd trucks (98 and newer), just remove the front axle. So really it won't cost you anything to use an Edge LT kit on your 4x4.

I think you will need a 2wd spindle, bearings, hell just get a wrecked 2wd ranger EDGE and swap everything over

If you weren't on the other side of the country I'd sell you my 2wd Edge spindles and stuff...they're just sitting around since I did my 4x4 swap.
