funny noise from the transmission

It just started today pulling out of a parking lot. When I gave it gas in 1st, it sounded like "I picked up a metal wire or somthing and it was going round and round hitting the undercarriage like it was caught on an axel". ??? It did this only while a gear was engaged and vehicle was moving. I'm not taking it in just yet because I'm still not sure what it is and the truck doesn't seem to be lacking. It actually hasn't done it during the last 10 miles or so. It's really annoying, any ideas?

Sorry, I have a manual transmission, no drivetrain modifications and the truck has about 75,000 miles. It might better describe the sound it I described as a tight wire loom quickly unwinding, if that makes sense to anybody.

check the fluid level in the tranny, on the driverside of it there is a plug that says fill, take it out and stick your finger in there, the ATF should be up to teh plug, even possibly pouring out when you pull the fill plug.

Well, it looks like I may have to replace the tranny. It's an 01!!! Anyway, anybody know where I could get one cheap, or possibly even upgrade?
