im gona be buying gears for my truck. Prolly 4.10 if i do im puting 33's. What brand gear should i buy on the budget that are good nonetheless? Gears and kit.

 

Personally I like a 4.33 gear with a 33 inch tires, and as for brands I haven't tried 2 many yet, but I liked the Ford Racing gears. Came with all the pinion shims and crush sleeve. Everything I needed to do the swap.

 

what type of driving do you do?

I have 4:10's in mine with 31's and I did notice a drop in power. not huge but noticable.

 

^some wheeling but do alot of work, tow weekly trailers and ocaccionaly over 5000 lb. ive got 3.73 gears now with 29.5 tires... and im looking into 4.10 gears for some 33 tires.. or if a can find a lil stronger gear.. but i dunno..



i was on a ranger forum of argentina and they told me that the rear diferential is a dana 44-3 .... y try to find out about this and im clueless. anyone can help bout this? cause they told me that the gears for a normal dana44 doesent work on this one...

gotta be sure.. cause i doubt ill be able to change then once i get them and would suck if they dont work..

 

I have 4.10s in my ranger with the 4.0 and i wish it was a 4.33 or 4.56 because it just doesn't pull like stock anymore. and with towing id want a little deeper gear for help in the hills department, then again your diesel has just as much or more torque than my 4.0L so not sure what you might want in the front and back so its kinda your call get the 33's first and see how it runs/pulls the tires on hills and what not if you don't notice a difference then just stick with what you have. If it feels more doggy and like its struggling on hills then i would consider the gear swap

With the diesel I am not sure of what the axles are under but they should have a tag bolted to the cover that tells you what it is and current gear ratio and some other stuff

 

try 4.10's and 33's!

 

it wasent a tag. it was a sticker... all teared up so no help. i might go to the dealer tomarrw to find .

do you have any specs on the diesel engine in that? Im not sure how the horsepower and torque compare to the gas engines available in the U.S.

I also agree with the comment about getting the tires first then decide on gears. See how the acceleration and Highway RPM's are effected with the 33's

 

They are gonna be lower slightly but because he wont have his speedometer calibrated for the tires its going to read slower than he's actually going. at 65 i'm actually doing 69-70 according to my gps. and the faster you go the greater the difference becomes. the biggest point you notice larger tires is low rpm. take off and long hills. since he wheels a little he will notice that it takes more throttle in 4x4 high being an auto i'm to the point that if i'm off road i'm in 4low because it's too hard on my transmission otherwise

 

yeah but i cant go over a month with 33's and 3.73 as my truck is ment for work.. so thatl suck..
and ive been thinking bout the 4.27 actually not the 4.10 gears

another thing my truck has front dana 35.. getting gears is easy for this one.

but as they told me the rear is a dana 44 but a dana 44-3.. so this means... its got the same difrential but the carrier is diferent. so they told me that to be able to use standard dana 44 gears i needed to put a ring between the ring and the carrier . or something like that.. still trying to find someone that knows what he was talking and see if its possible....

dam this thing always gets complicated....

 

I use mine for towing stuff at work like boats and i pulled a tandem axle car trailer unloaded the other day just try the tires then see what you think. Gears are a rather in depth process and cost more than tires to have installed. Here's what I've hauled with my 4.0L and 4.10's. I use it like a truck, and it gets wheeled hard too! And this is with 186k miles on the clock
