got my locker but confused

so i got my locker but i thought i was getting a detroit locker (as the pic showed when i bought the unit) but the modle number i got was a NoSPIN locker made by eaton witch is alright i gues (for teh price i got it ) but one thing i am confused about was the detroit locker REPLACES the carrier and myn NoSPIN fits INTO the stock carrier .. now i have a gears aswell (5.38) and the diff this is going into is a 1981 GM 14 bolt FF with the smaller carrier (4.10 and numaricaly down gears) i have 3.73 so now i need to get the carrier that is for the numaricaly bigger gear ratios or do i not need a diferant carrier to install the: gears (5.38) and locker.

thansk for all the help guys

if the 1 you got isnt the same as the picture on the site, then i would call the store and see what is up.....they may have shipped out the wrong unit...

BTW: Eaton makes Detroit

As long as the carrier it an open diff with the spider gears you should be able to install the gears and locker with the stock carrier. This is my best guess. I don't know too much about GM axles.

The Detroit for a 14 bolt replaces the spider gears and your re-use the stock carrier. They sent you the right one.

this isnt the detroit its still made by eaton but its the eaton nospin .. and the reason i am asking is because there is a carrier split on my axle between 4.10 and 4.56

the carrier split is an issue. if you currently have 3.73s on a 4.10 and down carrier, you will need the other carrier to install the 5.38s. from the sound of it, the locker you got is a lunchbox style so it will have no effect on the gear install.
if you ordered a detroit(full carrier) for 4.10 and up to facilitate the installation of your 5.38s id call them back and find out what is goin on.

x2. You should be able to install the locker in either carrier, but you won't be able to install the 5.38 gears on the 3.73 carrier you've got now.
