So I finally found a transmission for my truck but was wondering if anyone could tell me how to drop the transmission.

Steps/tools used would be very appreciated.

Its a 2000 3.0 4x4

 

well take the drive shaft, then tase, then get the tranny lines and cable unhooked then the torque converter then the bell housing bolts and slide it out. you will have to take the y pipe out too.

 

-rear driveshaft
-front driveshaft
-t-case skid plate
-t-case connector
-drain transmission fluid
-tcase
-starter
-shift cable
-torque converter bolts
-y-pipe
-crossmember
-trans connectors
-trans cooler lines
-torque converter nuts
-trans bellhousing bolts

On a 3.0 there is one bell housing bolt thats easy to miss. Once you pull the starter off you will be able to see it, it goes thru from the engine side.

 

Does anyone know what size the torx bit is for the front driveshaft? I see that the rear needs a 12mm 12 sided ratchet but it looks like the front is a torx.

 

it should also have a hex on it that you can fit at 8mm wrench on. open end. maybe 10mm

 

So I got the pan drained, and the rear drive shaft off. Tomorrow im driving 100 miles one way to get a tranny for 200. Hopefully can get the transmission almost out saturday morning.

 

Does anyone know if a manual tailhousing will bolt up to a auto?

 

no it will not. they are totally different.

The manual tailshaft housing is dry, it has a seal in it

the automatic tailshaft housing is open

 

Dang, A guy scammed me into buying a manual(I only knew autos had a torque converter, and he lied saying he used it) but im not driving 200 more miles just to get my money back.

So now im contemplating a manual swap...maybe.

 

Do manuals use different sized driveshafts?
